SCARAB: Digital Commons@Bates

SCARAB (Scholarly Communications and Research at Bates) is the Institutional Repository for Bates College. It showcases digital scholarship and creative works produced by students, faculty and staff. SCARAB has a dual role in both promoting the use of the college's scholarly output and ensuring its long-term preservation, sponsored and administered by Information and Library Services.

What Types of Materials Can Be Included?

  • Electronic student theses
  • Open access literature
  • Pre and post prints of scholarly articles (permission required, see SHERPA: RoMEO)
  • Conference proceedings
  • Electronic newsletters
  • Presentation materials (ie: Powerpoint)
  • Data
  • Images
  • Non-traditional scholarship

Why Contribute Content to SCARAB?

For Students and Faculty- 

  • Increase visibility of scholarship - discoverable by Google
  • Access your scholarship indefinitely with stable URLs
  • Publish non-traditional scholarship such as presentations, field trips, etc.
  • Avoid legal issues (we know the rules)
  • Measure readership by receiving monthly usage reports.

For the College -
