Business and Industry Research Using LexisNexis Academic

1.  Begin your research by navigating to the LexisNexis portal from the link below.  This is a premium resource accessible to current members of the Bates community.  If you attempt to access this resource from off campus, you will be prompted to provide your Bates username and password.

2.  From the LexisNexis Academic portal page, select the "Search by Content Type" option at the top of the page.  From the window that opens, select one of the options below the "Companies" heading (i.e. Dossier (Company, Executive, & Industry), Company Profiles or SEC Filings).

In this demonstration, we will choose "Dossier (Company, Executive, & Industry)".

3.  From there, enter either the name or the ticker symbol for the company of interest.

For this example, we will enter the ticker symbol for Starbucks (i.e. sbux).

4.  After entering the ticker symbol for our company of interest, we are provided with a wealth of financial and investment information about that company including a business description, yearly financials, recent news, legal issues and intellectual property information.

Of particular note are:

  • Brands
  • Competitors
  • Analyst Reports
  • SEC Filings
  • ZACKS Investment Research
