EndNote installation with Sierra OS

If your computer is running the latest version of the Apple operating system "Sierra", read through and then follow the steps below to download, install and activate your copy of EndNote Desktop X7.5:

  • Install all updates for your copy of Microsoft Word.  Depending on how frequently you update, this might take a while.  Please do this, because it is necessary for providing a critical component of EndNote.
  • Close all instances of Microsoft Word on your computer.  This is important for installation of the EndNote "Cite-While-You-Write" (i.e. CWYW) plugin.
  • Download the EndNote Desktop installer for the Sierra operating system from the following location:

    EndNote Desktop X7.5—Mac (Sierra Compatible)

  • Open the EndNote Desktop installer and install EndNote in the applications folder on your computer.  During installation, choose the option for the 30 day trial.
  • Open Microsoft Word (if available on your computer) and confirm that the CWYW plugin was installed.
    • For newer versions of MS Word, you will see a new "EndNote X7" tab in the toolbar ribbon.
    • For older versions of MS Word, you will see a new EndNote X7 floating tool bar.
  • At your earliest convenience before the end of the 30 day trial, come to the research desk in Ladd Library and ask a research librarian to activate your copy of EndNote by entering an activation code.
