What We Can Do for You

As a participant in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), we:

  • Provide a Basic Collection of U.S. government titles.
  • Provide assistance with government information; please contact Research Services.
  • Provide local, no-fee access in an impartial environment, during Ladd Library's normal operating hours.
  • Collect, organize, and preserve current and historical U.S. government information in various formats.

Public computer workstations (Kiosks) provide access to the Library Web Page, the Internet, and the online depository collection are available to the general public at no charge.

Federal Depository Library Program

  • We are open to all, serving Maine's 2nd Congressional District through the FDLP program.
  • On December 14, 1883, the Honorable Nelson Dingley, Jr. (Maine - 2nd Cong. District) named Bates College Maine's first official federal depository.
  • We are a selective depository. The regional depository for Maine is Fogler Library at the University of Maine at Orono.  It receives and permanently retains all available government publications from the U.S. Government Publishing Office. We can check their depository holdings on MeCat.  

Depository Access Policies

The general public is welcome to use depository materials free of charge.  Public access to federal government publications in all formats is guaranteed by Title 44, Section 1911 of the United States Code.

Ladd Library adheres to the following policies set by the U. S. Government Publishing Office:

Most of the government documents collection can be checked out.  Circulating documents may be borrowed by citizens of the Second Congressional District in accordance with the Library Borrowing Policy.
