Try Searching in An Article Index:

An article index is like Google Search if it only searched journal articles.  Below you will find several article indexes that should help you zero in on some relevant scholarly sources.

Helpful Hint: Journal Title Search

Want to know whether Bates subscribes to a journal?

  • You can perform a "Journal Title Search" from the CBBcat search on the Ladd Library home page.
  • And if Bates does not provide immediate access, we can still get you an article via interlibrary loan (ILL).  Please ask us at the research desk if you are unsure how to do this!

A Short List of Popular Magazines Accessible Through Ladd Library:

In edition to the large number of physical books about climate change located in the Ladd Library stacks, you also have access to many more electronic books on the subject.  To see a complete list, search the Bates library catalog.  Several good examples are provided here:

Predictive Policing

Artificial Intelligence (A.I) in Society

The Data Divide

Cryptocurrency

Underrepresentation / Marginalization in Computing / STEM

Newspaper article search across multiple newspapers simultaneously:

Use Proquest News and Newspapers to search across many newspapers simultaneously.  Newspapers include the Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post.

A (Small) List of Blogs You Might Find Useful:

These blogs often discuss the intersection of technology and society and can be useful for framing additional research into more academic sources. None of this content is endorsed by Bates, nor should the fact that a link listed here be taken as an endorsement.  They are simply meant to be an example of the kinds of sites present on the web that are actively engaged in discussions about the intersection of society and technology.

For all of these sites, locate the search tool and search within to locate content related to your interests (e.g. "data privacy", etc.).
